Stockholm Travel Guide

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and also the largest city in the Nordics. The city has also been called “The capital of Scandinavia” and “The Venice of the North” to attract tourists. The comparison to Venice derives from the fact that Stockholm is built upon islands in the Baltic Sea. Having so much water nearby makes Stockholm a perfect destination during the summer, when the city really blooms.

Eat & Drink

Over the last years Stockholm has really bloomed when it comes to cuisine. The general awareness of food, and especially good food, has definitely increased. This has led to an audience wanting and really appreciating something more than just the ordinary neighborhood restaurants. The city is behind most global big cities when it comes to casual dining, but multiple bistros and gastro pubs associated with the high-end restaurants are now part of the scene. High-end burger joints and food trucks started to appear a few years ago and are growing in numbers.

One thing to keep in mind is that most of the fine dining restaurants close during the summer, so careful planning and a bit of researched is advised during the period from midsummer to mid-august.

Shopping

If you are a shopping freak, Stockholm probably isn’t the city for you. However, that does not mean that there aren’t both nice and interesting places to discover.

Drottninggatan, Åhlens City and Gallerian are all located right by the Central Station and are popular among tourists and offers the ordinary brands found all over the Nordics. If you want something a bit different, then Mood Stockholm, just a few blocks away is recommended. Mood represents brands that you will not find on many other places and the selection of places to eat and drink is generally of very good standard.

Biblioteksgatan is the high-end shopping street in Stockholm. On this street and those adjacent to it you will find the most luxurious brands you can find in Stockholm.
